Map Changes in Cataclysm

June 13, 2010 by

Blizzard has announced the release of WoW Cataclysm and they have chosen a perfect name for the new expansion.
The world of Azeroth will shake on its foundation and lava will cover areas of the old Azeroth. Azeroth will never be the same again.
You are probably really familiar with the areas that have remained the same for five years. Now however, most of the zones of Azeroth will get an entirely new shape.
Buildings will be ruined, forests will be burned, new enemies will arise, new quests will be given etc. The whole world will undergo changes and Azeroth will never look the same before.
Blizzard has told us that the major changes will happen in the Barrens and in the Badlands even though we can expect changes in all the areas.
The Barrens, probably the biggest map of Azeroth, will be split in two. The east and west part will be divided by a huge crater in the ground.
The level zones of these parts will be changes. Because The Barrens was a lower level zone Blizzard will make Azshara, the area north of Orgrimmar a low level zone.
Since Durotar is also heavily affected by the Cataclysm, Orgrimmar is in danger and this is why in time the Horde Forces will have a new capital city.

Gnomeregan, which is now an instance, will also have its role changed. Perhaps the Gnomes will capture their home and perhaps it will be a new capital city for the Alliance.
This however is not sure because Blizzard has only given us limited information regarding this issue. The Blackrock Mountains will be totally revamped.
It is believed that the old instances and raids inside the Blackrock Mountain will be updated to match the new player levels.

We know that Blizzard is doing its best to change the quests we already know to fit their vision of leveling. It should go hand in hand with the Cataclysm and the questing should be done fairly fast.
Flying will also become available in Azeroth which is really nice. Blizzard is making the last developments and they are doing this with new tools which will make the whole World of Warcraft look nicer and more detailed.
