This druid guide will give you some tips and tricks on how to play the druid class and give you some insight on how to place your talent points. if you’re looking for something more comprehensive, then take a look at the Zygor’s Guide!
Druids are one of two hybrid classes in World of Warcraft. Hybrid classes are those that can fill various roles depending on their spec. Druids can be Caster Dps (shoots at a range and is magical), Melee Dps (must be in melee range and is physical), or a healer (Restoration Spec). Druids have the ability to tank, DPS either from a range or in melee, and play the role of main or backup healer, all packaged into one little (or not so much if you happen to be Tauren) druid. Druids are also unique in that they have various forms they can shape shift into. A lot of players find this class to be a lot of fun to level up and play.
Druid Race
Be you a Druid player, you may know that Druids are limited to being Night Elves if they play as the Alliance and Tauren if they are with the Horde. Between the Tauren and Night Elf Druid, there are many differences in regard to both racial abilities and aesthetics for the most part.
As far as which side to choose, as in Tauren of Night Elf, this difference is largely visual as opposed to bringing any actual advantage to either, although I will say that Tauren do push ahead of night elves with 5% more health as opposed to night elves useless stealth. Unfortunately, the Tauren have amazingly ugly cat form looks to make up for the increased health.
You’re going to be spending a great deal of time with this character, so your first priority should be picking a race that appeals to you if you’ve always wanted to play an elf, for instance, don’t create a Tauren just because you’ve heard their abilities are a little better for druids, or vice versa.
Druid Abilities
Druidic abilities covers a lot of ground, this is exactly where the druid class differentiates itself from all others: multiple tree’s of abilities designed to be utilized by the various forms. Druids have many interesting abilities but the most fun one is definitely the ability to shapeshift. Druids have a lot of forms they can shapeshift into like Bear, Cat, Sea Lion and Travel form.
The core abilities of a druid consists of three single-target and one multiple-target mage-like damage spells; four single-target and one multiple-target priest-like healing spells; a Cat Form containing basic damaging special moves similar to a rogue; a Bear Form yielding armor and health similar to a Warrior; poison- and curse-cleansing spells; and a range of utility spells like various travel forms, crowd control, and a nice group buff. Spending Talent points in the Talent trees allows Druids to specialize their play style as they see fit.
Druids could become very good healers, casters, melee dpsers and tanks and their talent tree is divided into three specializations – Feral Combat, Balance and Restoration. If a Druid chooses to spec Balance he will become a typical dps caster with a special form called the Moonkin form. While in this form, a Druid will grant his party/raid members +5% on the spells’ critical strike and this is one of the reasons why other classes of casters love to have a Moonkin in their group.
Druid Leveling
Leveling a druid varies for every player, unlike many classes. How enjoyable you find the experience is almost entirely based upon personal capabilities at controlling the numerous, and sometimes tricky, abilities and combos that make up a druid.
The fastest way to level a druid without downtime is Feral, subspeccing into Restoration for a few key talents post King of the Jungle. Balance has its potential, especially after level 40 (when you pick up Moonkin Form and some other talents which reduce your downtime dramatically) but is overall slower then Feral. I leveled my first druid Feral all the way but with my second druid I re’speced to Balance at level 40 for a change in game play.
Feral Combat Druids
This is the most widely chosen path for druids who wish to level and do PVP. Druids are given a bear form and cat form. The bear form resembles that of a warrior. Some of the abilities and concept of it are the same. You will want strength and stamina gear to raise your attack power and hit points to get the most out of this form. The cat form is just like playing a rogue, most of the abilities you will be able to relate to if you have played a rogue at all. You will want to focus on agility / stamina gear for cat form.
Balance Druids
This tree focuses on casting, specifically, harmful spells only. You will get improvements to your nukes and all kinds of fun stuff. The most common druid you will find using this build is what they call the moonfire spammer n00b. Moonfire spamming n00bs are hated across all servers. This type of druid does nothing but chase after you spamming their instant cast moonfire spell until either he runs out of mana or you die. It doesn’t take too much skill.
Restoration Druids
There isn’t much help you can do in leveling your druid here unless you plan on doing a lot of grouping. I will go over an instance build you can use to start off with that will make you most wanted in groups. Most druids who raid frequently at max level are required by high-end guilds to put their talents heavily into the restoration tree.
Gear
Since druids dawn themselves in leather gear, it’s important to know whether or not you’re best suited for tanking, dps, or ranged. Depending on which angle you choose will decide what type of leather gear you will need. The higher the level, the more it’s going to cost in the Auction House. This is why skinning and leatherworking is a great combination for druids to utilize.
Druids can equip any armor piece from the Gladiator’s Sanctuary, Wildhide, or Refuge set. The Gladiator’s Wildhide set increases spell damage, thus a good choice for Balance druids. Alternatively, Gladiator’s Sanctuary focuses on melee combat so druids spec-ed in Feral will prefer this. Lastly, Gladiator’s Refuge set adds healing powers, therefore Restoration druids would make best use of it. This page allows you to easily buy these PvP arena armors to help your with your Warcraft Druid leveling.
Druid PvP
Druids have a number of abilities that are extremely diverse in game play. In the World of Warcraft, Druid, like Shaman and Priest is able to heal in PvP situation, but Druid is one of the most verstatile classes. This verstatilly does not serve a Druid as well inarenes or battleground, but it does make a few unique strategies available to the players of the class.
If you are interested in engaging in PVP as a Druid, one of the first things that you should stay focused on is your natural ability to heal. The exceptional healing skills of this class are one of the main reasons why Druids are so successful in solo quests, solo fights, and even solo PVP.
If you are playing PVP against a strong opposing force, one of the best things that you can do is actually shape shift into the bear form. There are many different reasons for this, but the most important reasons include the fact that in this particular form, you can take a lot of hit points, and damage is drastically reduced.
Would you like to level up your Druid faster and make more gold?
