WoW Rogue Leveling Guide
Your WoW rogue leveling begins with the character you roll. The rogue is available to many races, each offering its unique racial abilities to the rogue mix. Humans offer both perception and sword specialization, the first allows rogues to see others coming and the second allows them to hit better.
Like any other character, WoW rogue leveling depends significantly on your play style. However, the rogue character makes a powerful solo character, as well as a group member, with their powerful damage, ability to stun, and the ever useful ability to stealth in and out of danger.
Talent builds make and break a rogue because they are not innately good like some of the other classes. Without the right talent build and play style, a rogue is useless. As with every classes leveling build you’re aiming to maximise your sustained DPS. The subtlety tree is more of a pvp talent tree featuring lots of utility type abilities but not ones which will necessarily help your sustained damage. This leaves you with both Assassination and combat. Both are viable options but most will spec combat after level 40, when you can use Adrenaline rush and blade flurry to do some seriously fast killing every once in a while.
You can also go with combat swords as a great PvE and leveling build, as this is one of the best “boss damage” builds today. The reason that most consider this the best boss damage build is that your offhand sword will get an extra attack from your chosen sword specialization, which means that you gain an extra main hand attack. This does more damage overall. Make sure that you get a fast offhand sword so you will gain more damage in that extra attack.
General Rogue Leveling Tips
Since I already covered gearing your rogue in terms of weapons I thought I’d add a brief section on some of the more valuable tips I’ve picked up along my 1 – 80 journey in WoW.

-
Use bandages when you can, eating food really slows you down. You should be able to afford them at the auction house but if you’re still worried about your gold then maybe you should buy a gold making guide.
-
Grind on caster mobs. You can sometimes level twice as fast depending on what mob type your grinding. Casters are easy for rogues because they have little armor and their spells can be kicked/stunned.
-
Use Swords! You’re probably sick of hearing it by now but don’t forget the rule just because you got a new dagger from an instance or something.
-
Quest! All this talk of grinding when I don’t even do any. I can’t tell you how much faster questing is than flat out grinding and more interesting too.
-
Get a higher level friend to help you with your level 20 poison quests because they’re a real pain in the a**.
-
Stack agility and +Attack power gear. Forget +Strength as it’s nearly useless to rogues. You only get 0.5 Attack power for ever 1 strength, that’s it!
Unless you’ve leveled half a dozen toons to 80, you could probably use a guide that shows you the fastest questing routes. If you feel frustrated with the time it takes you to level, pair my leveling info with Dugi’s popular “Ultimate Leveling Guide“. I personally vouch for this guide because not only does it do a top job of leveling you fast, its also the best value in-game level guide out there (you get the Horde AND Alliance guide for the price most guides charge for each).
